Details On Candidate Airport Stances
George Aman
Aman has not taken a public stance on the Airport, but the Republican Party has favored keeping the Airport open and operating.
Jeff Bragman
Bragman favors a one-year compromise that would ban jets, helicopters, seaplanes, and commercial flights at East Hampton Airport while accommodating small plane, local pilots. After the one-year “air traffic holiday,” he believes the Town should make more permanent decisions about Airport regulations or closure
Kathee Burke-Gonzalez
Burke-Gonzalez favors maintaining airport operations on a modified basis. She supports imposing aircraft curfews, shortening the runway at the Airport, and putting restrictions on--but not immediately banning--helicopters, jets, seaplanes, and commercial flights.
Joe Karpinski
Karpinski has publicly supported keeping the Airport open.
Cate Rogers
Rogers favors maintaining the airport operations to accommodate small, local pilots. She supports imposing flight curfews, restricting Airport access for helicopters, jets, and commercial flights, and purchasing the Montauk Airport. Rogers also favors buying the Montauk Airport to ensure Town control over air traffic.
Peter Van Scoyoc
Van Scoyoc has not come out with a plan on the future of the airport to date. He supports a two month airport closure, and favors experimenting with regulations like curfews and flight restrictions to see what policies will reduce air traffic and noise pollution without impacting Montauk. Many speculate that Van Scoyoc will purchase the Montauk Airport to ensure Town control over air traffic.
Ken Walles
Walles has said he will fight to keep the airport open.
John Whelan
Whelan favors closing the airport temporarily and reopening it to accommodate small plane, local pilots. He supports banning helicopters, jets, seaplanes, and commercial flights, and purchasing the Montauk Airport in order to close it.
